A Teacher’s Dash

A Teacher's Dash by Linda Ellis

As The Dash poem has made its way around the world since 1996, I’ve received thousands of emails. Some of those have been heartfelt requests to pen more specific dash related poems. Hence, I titled my first “take-off” from The Dash poem: A Teacher’s Dash.

Though this is the first in a succession of dash poems, both finished and soon to be composed, I wrote this one because I admire those who choose to follow their hearts and not their checkbooks. Teachers, in general, are not held in the esteem with which they should be by our society. They literally have in their grasp, our future … sitting wide-eyed, untarnished and impressionable. What an extreme responsibility … and one that often goes unrecognized and unappreciated. I hope my poem helps to change that for those who wish to read and share it …

We were touched about 18 months ago when our deputy Principal passed away when someone read out “The Teacher’s Dash” at her funeral.
Another teacher friend has just passed away this morning. Is there any chance I can get a copy of this poem again as we would like to use it for this special teacher friend also.
    Could you please help me?

My Wife is a retired Kindergarden Teacher and both Granddaughters are 4th and 5th grade Elem. teachers. enough said before recess.
