Relish
RELISH
Linda Ellis copyright 2010
To slow down enough to enjoy…
to appreciate, delight in…and savor;
to relish is to distinguish a difference
between eating and tasting the flavor.
Abundant, yet elusive;
life’s moments are here for the taking.
But they cannot be detained,
shackled or chained;
they are memories still in the making.
Through endless tasks and errands,
our vision becomes obscured,
until we no longer see
that each day should be
truly lived and not endured.
The days seem to pass in clusters;
as time, in rhythm, marches on…
by the time we realize they were here,
they are then, forever gone.
Time molds a grown man from a son,
a woman from a newborn daughter…
evaporating into the atmosphere,
are the years…like drops of water.
As we challenge the Champion of Time,
through the bout, we must surrender
as welterweights against the title…
each but a shameful, weak contender.
Each minute, a piece of your lifetime,
happening now and happening here
so take the time to make the time,
before they disappear…
to relish all the moments;
to laugh, to love, to live
to smile, to cry, to release, to embrace,
to share, to take, to give.
Consider life a dry, yet porous sponge
that will absorb, expand and grow;
let blessings fill each hollow space
until they overflow.

I have not managed to see Live- your – Dash poem.
Our days are so busy & scheduled & yet,deep down we know that we should slow down to “relish” life & its blessings. We need Linda’s beautiful reminder ….. every day!
It is truly a realization of life passing by, and life endured.
Often we have no control of this: example: I’ve waited 16 months for knee surgery. Finally on may 5/ 10, I had a total knee replacement, went home on the 5th day, and am still recuperating– so each day of life is ENDURANCE of PAIN.Got to have hope!
Another beautiful piece of work, Linda!
Well done Linda. I’ll read it again later when I’m not running around : )
It is a beautiful poem. The older I get, the more I realize that I need to enjoy each moment in time that I am given. Thanks for the reminder Linda!!
Indeed, time is but a vapor. The essence of life is to enjoy the steam.
I think you did an amazing job on this lovely piece, giving advice about relishing ones time and their life, great job my poetic friend!
It is beautiful… very touching
