I was sent this poem to me right before my Daddy died. He was my Hero & the one man that I trusted completely. Even tho I put my parents thru Hell more times than I care to say or even admit they were always there for me with open arms. I will never forget the last week of my Daddy’s life but, most importantly I WILL NEVER forget the last night before he died the next morning. My Daddy & I went thru times where it was very hard for him to show me love but, I always knew in my heart that he loved me no matter what. I wasn’t a Daddy’s Girl until I was almost 30 yrs old but, after that time…..I was a true Daddy’s Girl. One of the last things he ever told me that has stayed with me until this day was that his one wish for me was to find & experience True Love. I am glad to say his wish has come true. As we were planning his funeral this poem kept coming into my mind. I asked my Mom if it could be read at his funeral, she said yes. The reason it was so important to me for this to be read was because there were so many good things that my Daddy did for others without their knowledge. He wanted no recognition only to be sure that people hebknew & some he never met had the things in their life that they truly needed to help them survive. I mean truly survive. He would read stories in the local paper about someone needing help & after research & finding out what that need was he did everything in his power to make it happen. As I said there were so many that never knew where the help came from. My Hero, my Daddy, made this poem a reality. He never expected anything in return just to ask of the one’s that knew of his help “To Pay it Forward”. I believe that what ge did with his Dash was truly an inspiration to me & helped make ne want to keep his legacy going of just “Paying it Forward” . There was a movie by that name that was a true story the ending was not a good one but, the message it conveyed was just as important as the message that cones from the poem “The Dash”. All the things I do in my life I hope not only honors my Daddy but, also honors God. I want to make my Dash count whether anyone on this Earth knows about it or not. My Daddy & my God will know but, what us even more important to me is to bring Glory to God for the gift of my wonderful parents. My Mom is still with us & that is a great Blessing but, the other great Blessing was being the daughter to the one man in my life that never turned his back on me & gave me the courage to keep on giving…..even when u feel like u have nothing to give u will be surprised that sometimes the greatest gift is a kind word, a hug, or just a cup of coffee with someone that just needs an ear from someone that cares & will just listen. As scripture says…..Be still & know that I am God. I, to this day, will sometimes just sit quietly & listen as God speaks to my heart & guides me to the place where He feels I’m needed most. Thank you for the beautiful poem but, most if all Thank you for showing me it’s not the day we are born nor the day we die….it’s what happens in life along the the way……The Dash.
